La vie parisienne d'Offenbach
Festival d'opéra de Québec
La Vie Parisienne will be the highlight of the festival. In this joyful work, where the atmosphere is festive, we encounter idle dandies, swindled tourists, and servants in disguise... It is, in a way, a satire of a segment of society devoted to appearances and the ephemeral. Pure entertainment!
The work was first created in five acts at the start of the 1866-1867 season at the Théâtre des Bouffes-Parisiens. It is Offenbach's 66th lyrical work, composed at the height of his fame. Thus, he was in a very good position to vividly depict, with the help of his librettists, joyous scenes of Parisian life without omitting some parodies, references, and snubs at the fashionable society. Director Jean-Romain Vesperini, following Offenbach's lead in proposing a modern opera, sets the action in the chic and trendy Paris of the 80s!
To interpret the many characters, we will be delighted to see artists who made their mark on the last edition of the Quebec Opera Festival, beloved local singers, irresistible young talents, and solid international figures. Of course, the Orchestre symphonique de Québec, the Chœur de l’Opéra de Québec, and dancers will be there. A merry cast that will dazzle and delight you!
