Il trovatore de Verdi
Opéra de Québec
What will happen to the love between Manrico and Leonora, which arouses the jealousy of Count di Luna? Who really is Manrico, this mysterious troubadour? Azucena, a gypsy who loves Manrico as her own son, knows all the secrets and will have the last word: revenge! Against the backdrop of war, heightened passions ignite leading to a sinister ending. Verdi elevates with his music the tragic fates of the protagonists, who are unaware of the blood ties that bind them.
Along with La Traviata and Rigoletto, Il Trovatore is one of Verdi's operas whose success is undeniable over time. A mainstay of the repertoire and among the most performed worldwide, it was only presented at the Opéra de Québec on one occasion. For this new production, the Opéra de Québec counts on the intelligence and creativity of the director Jean-Sébastien Ouellette, who had so finely revisited Donizetti's Don Pasquale in 2022. The conductor Federico Tibone, also a pianist and vocal coach, is currently the associate conductor at the Opéra de Marseille and for the Marseille Philharmonic Orchestra.
To perform these roles of great depth, the director of the Opéra de Québec relies on performers who are skilled in both acting and singing, including the lyrico-spinto soprano Irina Stopina, who has a dual background as a singer and an actress.
Featuring the Orchestre symphonique de Québec and the Chœur de l’Opéra de Québec.
