La cinquième de Tchaïkovski
Orchestre symphonique de Québec
Between France and Russia, the golden age of Romanticism and its legacy take center stage in this concert program. Debussy’s Petite Suite, a youthful work inspired by Paul Verlaine’s Fêtes galantes, is presented here in its magnificent orchestral version. "En bateau – Cortège – Menuet – Ballet" are evocative steps in a leisurely stroll through the world of the Belle Époque, where melodic invention meets spirited rhythms.
The inspiring Ukrainian violinist Diana Tishchenko joins the orchestra for Saint-Saëns’ Third Concerto, written for the Spanish virtuoso Pablo de Sarasate. Composed just a few years before Debussy’s Petite Suite, it occupies a very different register: this grand Romantic concerto dazzles with its flair, passion, and the soaring energy of its irresistible finale.
Finally, Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony takes us to the heart of a tragic destiny. Despite his true desires, the composer forced himself into a disastrous marriage. After a long period of creative inactivity, he rediscovered his zest for life through this work, in which he poured his emotions. The result is one of the greatest symphonies of its century.
