La cinquième de Tchaïkovski
Orchestre symphonique de Québec
Between France and Russia, the golden age of Romanticism and its echoes take center stage in this concert program. A youthful work inspired by Paul Verlaine’s Fêtes galantes, Debussy’s Petite Suite is presented here in its magnificent orchestral version. “En bateau – Cortège – Menuet – Ballet” offer evocative steps of a journey through the Belle Époque, where melodic invention mingles with lively rhythms.
The inspiring Ukrainian violinist Diana Tishchenko joins the orchestra for Saint-Saëns’ Third Concerto, written for the Spanish virtuoso Pablo de Sarasate. Composed only a few years before Debussy’s Petite Suite, the tone is strikingly different: this grand Romantic concerto dazzles with its flair, passion, and the breathtaking brilliance of its irresistible finale.
Finally, Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony immerses us in the heart of a tragic destiny. Contrary to his deepest desires, the composer forced himself into a disastrous marriage. After a long period of inactivity, he found a renewed zest for life while writing this deeply emotional work, which became one of the greatest symphonies of its century.
